Organization founded in 2020. The Association works to provide forums for the critical and creative examination of information, computation, computers, and other computationally enabled technologies (such as robots), and endeavors not only to enrich philosophical research and pedagogy, but to reach beyond philosophy to enrich other discourses, both academic and non-academic. This mission statement reflects the APC’s roots in the longstanding APA Committee on Philosophy and Computers. The Association for Philosophy and Computing is an affiliate of the American Philosophical Association.
APC will publish related blocks of articles. Together with the American Philosophical Association (APA), it looks after the legacy of the Newsletter on Philosophy and Computers (2001–2020) of the APA Committee on Philosophy and Computers. In addition, the APC is represented in the APA group that awards the Barwise Prize, which is given on a yearly basis for significant and sustained contributions to areas relevant to philosophy and computing.
The first APC Conference will be held as part of the 2021 Summit of the International Society for the Study of Information. See the Call for Papers and Register for the event
